The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says a person who was shot by a Deputy during a firearms investigation early Thursday morning has died.
Investigators say 19-year-old Janidi Ibrahim was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at 48th and Pratt Streets, when the Deputy made contact and shots were fired by the Deputy.
Ibrahim was hit and the Deputy immediately provided first aid and called for paramedics.
Ibrahim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
No law officers were hurt.
The search is on for suspects, who fled the scene as the deputy approached the vehicle.
The Omaha Police SWAT Team executed a subsequent court authorized search warrant on 4811 Pratt Street later Thursday morning
The Deputy, a 12-year veteran, whose name has not been released, has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard operating procedure, and will eventually be interviewed.
Two firearms were located within the vehicle.
The Deputy had a body cam that was functional and working.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Omaha Police, and Nebraska State Patrol are investigating.
Under Nebraska law, a grand jury will also investigate.
