Creighton Prof Says Pro-Cop Event is "White Supremacist Rally"

Zachary B. Smith is an associate professor specializing in the "History of Christianity" at Creighton University. I don't know what else he's tweeted about, because after he blocked me on Twitter he apparently just deleted his account.

I suspect this happened after a barrage of tweets at him from NewsRadio 1110 KFAB listeners after I talked about this on the radio this morning. My favorite was this one:

Virgil Patlan, a former police officer who is a community leader in South Omaha, is one who is supporting this event. He told me in a phone call this afternoon he's never been called a white supremacist before (maybe because he's Hispanic?). His wife will be one of the speakers tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park.

Bill Williams of Patriotic Productions is the organizer of this event -- CLICK HERE to listen to my conversation with him this morning. (That podcast link also includes my recitation of a strongly worded e-mail to Dr. Adi Pour from an Elkhorn South parent who is frustrated that football camp has been cancelled due to one student testing positive for COVID-19.)

UPDATE -- CREIGHTON HAS RELEASED A STATEMENT:

Views expressed by a Creighton University faculty member on his personal social media account concerning the Back the Blue event are not those of the University. Additionally, the faculty member regrets his statement and sincerely apologizes for the offense it has caused.

Creighton believes statements of this nature impede our goal of promoting unity within our community, including our effort to confront and eliminate systemic racism. Creighton is an institution guided by Jesuit, Catholic values and traditions, including inquiry and discourse that reflect ethical and critical thinking, and respect and care, for all persons.
