LEGO ANNOUNCES $4 MILLION DONATION, PULLS DIGITAL ADVERTISING OF POLICE AND WHITE HOUSE-RELATED TOYS
The death of George Floyd in police custody has led to major protests across the country, and now it’s impacting advertisements. A toy trade publication got a copy of an email sent of affiliate marketers on behalf of Lego. The email requests that marketing for Lego products “that include representation of police officers, firefighters, criminals, emergency vehicles, and buildings” be pulled.
The email also calls for the adult builder Lego set of The White House be removed from advertisements.
This week, Lego also released a three-part statement on social media channels that says, “We stand with the Black community against racism and inequality. There is much to do. We will donate $4 million to organizations dedicated to supporting black children and educating all children about racial equality.”
