'Man-Free' Music Festival Being Planned in Sweden After Sexual Assaults
A "man-free" music festival is being planned in Sweden after the country's largest and most popular music festival, Bravalla, was cancelled for next summer after dozens of sexual assaults were reported at this year's festival, and there were similar problems the year before. Organizers said when they announced the cancellation, "Certain men . . . apparently cannot behave. It's a shame."
After that, Swedish radio personality Emma Knyckare tweeted out a proposal Sunday (July 2nd) for a festival that wouldn't be open to men, writing, "What do you think about putting together a really cool festival where only non-men are welcome, that we’ll run until ALL men have learned how to behave themselves?" The idea got enough interest that it's going to become a reality, with Knyckare writing on Instagram the next day, "Sweden's first man-free rock festival will see the light next summer."
She said she'll be gathering organizers and project leaders to put the festival together.
