Ugly Politics Seep into Found Super Bowl Jersey

The world is heaving a sigh of relief upon learning that Tom Brady’s stolen Super Bowl jersey has been recovered. According to the NFL, the jersey was tracked to a member of the international media who has not been formally identified.

TMZ is reporting that the suspect’s name is Mauricio Ortega, a former exec at a Mexican news organization called Diario La Prensa. According to La Prensa, Ortega quite his job on March 14th, and the paper was unaware that he was a suspect in the theft until today.

  • The league claims that the FBI and Houston police investigation not only retrieved the New England Patriot quarterback’s two jerseys from Super Bowl LI, but another missing jersey from Super Bowl XLIX as well. A Denver Broncos helmet believed to belong to Von Miller, who wore it in Super Bowl 50, was also recovered.
  • Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted out the news, writing: Proud ‪@houstonpolice Major Offenders Divison traced Brady Jersey to Mexico & it has been recovered with help of FBI & Mexican authorities.

The FBI link -- along with Brady's and the Patriots' links to President Trump -- caused some to start whining on Twitter.

They found Tom Brady's missing SuperBowl jersey in Mexico.. meaning it'll only be a matter of time till Trump uses that to justify his wall.

Mark Dice @MarkDice

It's great the FBI spent so many resources to find Tom Brady's jersey. Those sex and drug trafficking investigations could wait.
