(Omaha, NE) -- The Omaha City Council will vote this week on a proposal that could make homeless encampments on public property illegal.
The proposal aims to prevent safety concerns related to unauthorized camping, including illegal fires, littering, and damage to nature.
Anyone caught camping on public property could face up to 30 days in jail and a $300 fine.
The council will also consider three resolutions to support work programs that could help homeless people find employment.
The council will vote on the proposals during its meeting on Tuesday.
The full meeting agenda and more details on the proposals are available here.
