(Iowa) -- A national personal finance website ranks low on the list of states in the country with the highest student loan payments.
WalletHub looked at median student loan payments in all 50 states, with Nebraska ranking as the state with the 39th highest average monthly student loan payment. The study finds the average Nebraska graduate with student debt spends $178 dollars per month on students loans. Vermont tops the list with the highest median student loan payment in the nation at $248 per month, while Mississippi comes in at the bottom of the list, with an average monthly student loan payment of $142. Nationally, approximately 42.3 million Americans have student loan debt with a collective total of $1.67 trillion dollars.
