The Episcopal Diocese of Nebraska is coordinating a state-wide effort to purchase and forgive medical debt across the state. Nebraska, as a significantly rural state, has a higher rate of uninsured and under-insured individuals and families who are one medical emergency away from bankruptcy.

In 2020, the Nebraska Hospital Association reported $186 Million just in unpaid hospital debt. The Episcopal Diocese is partnering the non-profit Undue Medical Debt to purchase Nebraskans debt at a steep discount. Their goal is to raise $25,000, which will eliminate about $2.5 million of medical debt for Nebraskans.
