Deputy Encounters Suspected MS-13 Gang Member In Omaha

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office releases cruiser pictures and more information dealing with the Omaha traffic stop of a suspected MS-13 gang member

Deputy and K9 Handler Matthew Baber and his K9, "Jing," performed a traffic stop on a blue pickup truck headed eastbound on I-80 near 42nd Street and became suspicious.

Baber entered the information given to him by the driver into the El Paso Information Center (EPIC) database to verify its legitimacy.

What returned, was a notice that the driver, Rene Saul Escobar Ochoa, was on a MS-13 watchlist.

The Deputy relayed this information to the Nebraska Fusion Center law enforcement data base and federal law enforcement partners, allowing them to take immediate action to eventually locate Escobar Ochoa and arrest him in Omaha.

The Sheriff says there was no probable cause to make an arrest during the initial traffic stop, but information was put into the data base for crosschecking.
