(Omaha, NE) -- Bird flu is found in Douglas County.

The county health department says the H5N1 Avian Influenza virus is confirmed in several dead geese at a lake on the downtown Omaha riverfront.

Douglas County Health says they are coordinating with other health organizations and wildlife agencies to manage potential impact on local wildlife and address any risk to domestic pets and humans.

According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the risk to humans from avian influenza is low, typically the result of direct contact with infected birds or contaminated areas.
