(Omaha, NE) -- Walt Peffer, the Douglas County Assessor/Register of Deeds has died.
The office released a statement saying that he passed after a short bout of cancer at the age of 78.
He served as the Chief of Staff to four Omaha Mayors and also served other Mayors in various capacities. He was elected as the Douglas County assessor/register of deeds in 2022.
Peffer was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the United States Army, 196th Light Infantry.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
