Law Enforcement Gears Up For Summer Traffic Levels

As the Memorial Day holiday weekend and Summer travel season approach, the Omaha Police Department Traffic Unit will be among the law enforcement agencies taking part in the nationwide "Click It or Ticket" campaign that starts Monday, May 23rd and runs through through Sunday, June 5th.

The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety has awarded a mini-grant to fund extra traffic officers on the streets enforcing Nebraska's seatbelt and child restraint laws.

Operations will be carried out throughout the city at various times during the campaign.

They say the goal of the "Click It or Ticket" campaign is to increase the awareness of the State of Nebraska's seatbelt and child restraint laws while increasing the percentage of drivers who comply with these laws.

The Omaha Police Department wants to alert the public that wearing a seatbelt is the best way to reduce chances of death or serious bodily injury should one be involved in a motor vehicle collision.

Of the twenty fatal car crashes that the Omaha Police Department Traffic Unit has investigated so far in 2022, investigators say four had a victim who was not wearing their seatbelt.
