Omaha Man Back In Jail Days After Release

A man who assaulted a corrections officer last year at the Douglas County Jail was released just days ago on probation, but is already back behind bars again.

6 News reports 55-year-old Bruce McGrone of Omaha was arrested last year. When he was released from jail, he was supposed to enter rehab.

Instead, McGrone started drinking and bragging about assaulting a corrections officer. Stacie Wilkins is that corrections officer who was strangled. It took another inmate to pull McGrone off of her.

A number of colleagues and her boss were there to support her when McGrone was sentenced to three years in prison. He has been booked into jail more than 170 times in his life.

At the time of his sentencing, Wilkins was certain about one thing. “He won’t make it,” she told 6 News. “He’ll do his time, and he’ll go back.”

She was right. McGrone was released on probation Friday and by the next day he had already violated probation by leaving his transitional housing and never returning. Two days later, he let the battery die in his GPS.

A judge sent him back to jail for 15 days, and he’ll go back on probation after that. Wilkins is no longer a corrections officer at the Douglas County Jail.
