Man Chokes Police Dog In Attempt To Flee Officers

A Texas man is behind bars in Lincoln after attempting to flee from police and choking a K9 officer.

Lincoln Police say on Saturday, an officer made a traffic stop on I-80 after a vehicle failed to properly signal a lane change. The driver, 40 year old Steven Green from Texas, ran from the investigators and actively resisted their attempts to stop him. A taser was deployed but had no effect on Green and he hopped the fence next to the interstate.

Green ran towards a tree line, so Officer Pulec and K9 Mikey arrived in the area to assist in finding Green. The officer saw Green exiting the field near 112th and Holdrege and gave him commands to stop, which he refused. The officer deployed a taser, which again had no effect on Green. The man continued to fight the officer, so K9 Mikey was released.

Mikey latched onto Green at which time he used Mikey's collar to begin choking him. At that time, the officer intervened to stop Green from injuring the dog. Green continued to resist and tried to punch and elbow the officer. K9 Mikey and the officer both hung onto Green as he fought them, but they were eventually able to get him handcuffed. Neither K9 Mikey or his Handler were seriously injured during the assault.

Roughly $22,000 in cash and evidence of marijuana was found in Green's vehicle and he was arrested for possession of suspected drug money, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer and obstructing a police K9 officer.
