Katie Linehan with Educate Nebraska says recent preliminary assessment numbers released by the state show nearly half of Nebraska school kids are not proficient at reading for their age level. Linehan's group says too many kids are graduating without being prepared for college or other higher learning or work, and they have some suggestions on how to improve that statistic.
