Tom Venzor, the executive director of the Nebraska Catholic Conference says that yesterday's U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the case of Trinity Lutheran vs. Comer is a victory for religious freedom and puts a crack in the so-called Blaine Amendments that are on the books in 37 states, including a somewhat watered down version in Nebraska. In a nutshell, the ruling said that Trinity Lutheran could not be denied a state-sponsored grant to upgrade the surface of it's playground just because the school was considered a religious entity.
