Dr. Lisa Schlitzkus, associate trauma medical director at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine, describes what doctors are likely doing to treat Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, who was shot last week on a Virginia ball field by a shooter who targeted Republican congress members who were practicing for a charity baseball game against their Democratic colleagues. Schliztkus says that a bullet wound to the hip that shattered Scalise's pelvis would have numerous complications and require multiple surgeries. She noted that type of injury could take months or even years to recover from.
