In a news release, the Douglas County Election Commission says the first ballots for the 2026 Statewide Gubernatorial General Election were mailed Monday to approximately 65,000 voters who submitted written applications.
Early Voting By Mail:
Ballots are mailed in Kraft-colored envelopes measuring approximately 6 inches by 9 inches; a return envelope is included with the ballot. If several household members requested ballots at the same time, but are not received together, please wait at least two days before contacting the commission office to allow postal processing time.
Voters who requested a by-mail early voting ballot may check the status of their application online at ne.gov/go/votercheck. On the home page, enter the voter’s first name, last name, and county to match the voter registration, and click “Look Up.” Election Commission staff continue to process applications, and ballots will be mailed every weekday through October 23rd. The deadline for the Election Commission to receive an application for a by-mail early voting ballot is Friday, October 23rd, at 6:00 p.m.
Early Voting in Person:
Early voting in person begins on Monday, October 5th, at the Douglas County Election Commission. The office is located at 12220 W Center Road at the northwest corner of 120th St. and W Center Rd in the Bel Air Plaza. Business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional and extended hours for this election may be found at www.votedouglascounty-ne.gov.
Voting at the Polls on Election Day:
The 2026 Statewide General Election will be on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026. Polling places will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Voters may verify their polling place location by using the gray “Find Your Voting Information” field on our website www.votedouglascounty-ne.gov or by calling the office at (402) 444-VOTE (8683).
Ask Ballot Questions Before Submitting:
Voters with questions about any aspect of their ballot are encouraged to seek answers from the Douglas County Election Commission before submitting it. Depending on the issue, it may not be possible to correct an administrative error after the ballot is returned to our office or deposited into the ballot box at a polling place.
Voter ID:
Voters are reminded that Nebraska’s voter ID law applies to all elections. Voters who vote in person, either early at the Election Commission or on election day at their polling place, must present an acceptable form of photo ID or vote provisionally. Voters who vote early by mail fulfill the voter ID requirement on their ballot application.
