As part of the Build OMA Terminal Modernization Program, the Omaha Airport Authority is adding a new Central Pedestrian Skywalk.
Construction is scheduled to begin next Monday, August 31st, and is expected to be completed in 2028.
The authority says the Central Skywalk will become the airport’s third skywalk from parking.
It will connect Level 3 of South Garage to Level 2 of the new Central Pavilion, allowing passengers to walk directly from the garage to the entrance of the new centralized security checkpoint.
The project also includes renovations of the airport’s two existing skywalks and construction of new elevators in the South Garage adjacent to the new skywalk.
During construction, modifications to the pedestrian paths between passenger pickup/drop off and the terminal, including sidewalks and crosswalks, are anticipated.
Directional signs will guide passengers through the affected area.
Parking space modifications on Levels 2 through 6 of the South Garage are also anticipated to accommodate construction of the new elevators.
The airport authority says in early November, travelers flying with South Terminal airlines will get the first look at the future of OMA when a portion of the new Unified Concourse and several new gates open as part of a Gate Preview.
While travelers will initially access these new gates through the existing South Concourse, that concourse will remain under construction during this time as renovations continue to progress.
In early 2027, the new Central Pavilion and more of the Concourse will open, providing an entirely new travel experience for all passengers ahead of next summer’s travel period.
Build OMA is expected to conclude in late 2028 with the opening of the remaining gates and the International Arrivals Facility, along with the return of passenger pickup and drop off to the terminal front drive.
