The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says 45-year-old Thomas Jones died Sunday at a Lincoln hospital.
He was incarcerated at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln.
Corrections say Jones began his sentence on September 23rd, 2011.
He was serving a 50-year sentence out of Douglas County for first degree assault, second degree assault, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
