Around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Omaha Firefighters responded to a house fire at 68th and Mason Streets.

Four people were home at the time of the fire, and Omaha Police Officers David Eckstrom and Ian Baxter rescued a 4-year-old child through a basement window.

All occupants safely escaped the residence.

The fire spread to a neighboring garage before firefighters extinguished it.

The cause of the fire was determined to be discarded grilling charcoal left on a deck.
