(Iowa) -- Iowans will be able to place bids on a wide variety of items starting Wednesday through an online auction from the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Items being auctioned include things like office equipment, surplus computers, pickups, cars, and more. Joshua Kelley with the Iowa DOT says the auction is a way to be responsible with Iowa taxpayer dollars: "What we're selling is surplus items that the DOT no longer has a purpose for, or they have exceeded their expected lifespan for us. So we sell them off in an effort to recover our tax dollars and be good stewards of the tax money."

The DOT says bidding for multiple items will close on various days and recommends checking back often. Items up for auction can be found on the GovDeals website, and an account is required to place a bid. Instructions for signing up for an GovDeals account are available on the website. The DOT says any questions regarding registering or placing a bid can be sent to customerservice@govdeals.com.
