The Douglas County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate last Friday's fatal, deputy-involved shooting, in which a suspect, 26-year-old Jaquan E. Marion, died and a deputy sheriff suffered a leg wound.
The incident happened as an arrest warrant was being executed in the area of 19th and Washington Streets. The Sheriff says Marion had absconded from parole for felony charges
The sheriff's office calls it's a complex investigation, and the majority of the evidence continues to be analyzed and assessed, and witness interviews continue.
The Sheriff on Monday authorized the release of some initial facts and still images of body camera footage from three of the involved Deputies:
• At approximately 3:31 PM, (Friday) the wanted fugitive, Jaquan Marion, exits 1915 Washington St. and walks to the front driveway. Sheriff's Office Special Operations Group surveillance team members exit their vehicles and attempt a peaceful surrender.
• Marion was non- compliant. A less lethal Taser deployment was attempted but ultimately unsuccessful.
• Within seconds of initial contact, Marion flees southbound down the driveway towards the back of the house and enters the back porch, which was converted into a sleeping room. Special Operations Group Deputies give chase as Marion flees.
• The lead DCSO Special Operations Group Deputy forces entry into the room.
• A shot is fired, by Marion, who retrieved a brown Glock 19X firearm equipped with an expanded capacity magazine from inside the room. The lead Deputy entering the room is struck in the right leg, falls to the ground, and returns fire. Other Deputies also return fire.'
• The entirety of the encounter was less than 35 seconds in duration from the initial point of contact until the last shot was fired.
