The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says a preliminary autopsy shows 39-year- old Brian Huggins, the suspect investigators say shot and wounded a Douglas County Sheriff's deputy on Sunday, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators say law officers confronted him trying to break into a northwest Omaha apartment during a domestic dispute.

The Sheriff's Office says the Douglas County Coroner conducted an autopsy on Huggins on Tuesday, and preliminary autopsy results, witness statements, and physical evidence at the scene indicate the gunshot wound that ultimately led to Huggins's death was self-inflicted.

The final autopsy report will provide conclusive evidence when it is delivered.

The DCSO says autopsy reports are known to take upwards of 60 days in most cases.
