Wounded Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Identified, Recovery Continues

Brayden Artzer

(Omaha, NE) -- There's new information in a fatal shooting investigation in the northwest part of Omaha that took the life of a suspect and wounded a law officer.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the wounded Deputy is 23-year- old Brayden Artzer.

He is recovering, and to be released from the hospital today.

Deputy Artzer has been with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office since last June and completed his field training last month.

A victim told law enforcement that 39-year-old Brian Huggins broke into her apartment near Blair High Road and Potter Street midday Sunday.

Investigators say as Deputies arrived, Huggins opened fire.

Huggins was then found inside the building suffering from a gunshot wound and later died at a hospital.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Once the autopsy has been completed and compared to witness statements and physical evidence at the scene, the DCSO anticipates being able to release more information on his cause of death
