First Responders Rescue Dog From Douglas County Lake

On "X," the Douglas County Sheriff says shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Deputies responded to a call for a dog in distress in the area of 228th and Harney Streets, just south of Waterloo.

When they arrived, they were told a dog had fallen through the ice on the lake and was treading water.

Deputy Kubik, who's a DCSO K9 handler, made use of a kayak that was on one of the homeowner's docks and quickly made his way across the ice, using his oar to break the ice as he paddled to the dog.

About the time he reached the dog, Waterloo Fire and Rescue arrived and helped pull Deputy Kubik and "Boomer" the dog back to shore.

Once on shore, Deputy Clark took the dog inside to warm him up with a hair dryer, and after a quick exam from a vet, "Boomer" is doing great.
