(Des Moines, IA) -- Portions of two interstates are closed because of treacherous road conditions across Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Transportation has closed Interstate 80 in both directions from West Des Moines to Council Bluffs and from mile marker 142 near Altoona (Des Moines metro) to mile marker 240 near Coralville Iowa City metro.
Also closed to traffic is Interstate 35 in both directions from U.S. 30 at Ames north to the Minnesota state line because of high winds and whiteout conditions.
Additionally, the Saylorville Mile Long Bridge in Polk County is shut down due to high winds.
A “travel not advised” alert remains in place for a large number of highways across the state, and travel is generally discouraged due to weather conditions.
All the locations will remain closed until conditions improve.
Iowans are be encouraged to stay home and delay travel.
