Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson says several states, including Nebraska, allow sex offenders to register as transient and not provide any information as to where they are staying.
Hanson believes the law creates a loophole that some sex offenders can exploit to avoid the legal requirement to disclose their address as a matter of public record.
Hanson says there's a page on the Douglas County Sheriff's Office website disclosing all registered sex offenders in Douglas County who are registered as transient.
He says if anyone has reason to believe someone on the website page is not transient but is registering as such to shield their actual address, contact the DCSO Tip Line at 402-444-6000.
