(Omaha, Neb) -- A World War II Vet and Nebraska native has become the oldest confirmed organ donor in the U.S.

Dale R. Steele died at the age of 100 on February 11th. His liver was successfully transplanted the next day.

Live On Nebraska says donor eligibility is based on health and organ viability, not just age.

The Ainsworth native served in Europe during World War II before returning to Nebraska.

Steele's family says his organ donation reflects the same generosity that defined his life.
