(Des Moines, IA) -- A bill introduced in the Iowa Legislature would make elective abortion at any stage of pregnancy a crime.

House File 2332 reclassifies feticide as a Class A felony, punishable by life in prison without parole.

The bill defines an elective abortion as using or any drug, instrument, or substance to intentionally terminate a pregnancy. Exceptions include miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and procedures needed to save the life of the pregnant woman.

It also expands Iowa’s existing feticide law to begin at conception.
