Twelve winners of an essay contest will win money to help pay for their future education.

Nebraska State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg is teaming up with the Omaha Storm Chasers for the 24th annual "Why I Want To Go To College" sweepstakes.

Seventh and eighth grade students are asked to write a 750 word essay on the value of education and what they want to achieve through education after high school.

The first place winner will have $2,000 deposited into their Nebraska Education Savings Trust or NEST savings account, a state-sponsored savings program.

The second place winner will earn $1,000, and the third place winner will get $500.

Essays must be sent by March 16, 2026 to Alexis Smith, Omaha Storm Chasers, 12356 Ballpark Way, Papillion, NE 68046 in order to be considered.
