The City of Valley, Nebraska will hold a special City Council election on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026.

The election will be by mail; therefore, no polling places will be open for voting.

In a news release, the Douglas County Election Commission says all ballots will be mailed beginning Monday, December 22nd, 2025 to voters who reside within the City of Valley official boundaries and are registered at their current address.

Ballots are mailed in Kraft-colored envelopes measuring approximately 6 inches by 9 inches; a return envelope is included with the ballot. Voters must provide voter ID information and sign the back of their return envelope in order for the ballot to be counted.

"Voters must meet the ID requirement when returning their ballot," Brian W. Kruse, Douglas County Election Commissioner, said. "Since an application is not necessary for an all-mail special election, voters are required to provide this information when returning their ballot in order for the ballot to count."

All voted ballots must be returned to the Douglas County Election Commission or to a secure ballot drop box no later than Tuesday, January 13th, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.

Drop boxes are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; no postage is needed on ballots placed in a drop box.

Secure ballot drop boxes are at:

· Douglas County Election Commission: 12220 W Center Road, Omaha

· Douglas County Engineer’s Office: 15505 W Maple Road, Omaha

· Bess Johnson Elkhorn Branch Library: 2100 Reading Plaza, Elkhorn
