(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln Police Monday identify the person who died in a vehicle-pedestrian crash as a woman from Omaha.
Investigators say 61-year-old Kristine Hess died after being hit by a flatbed tow truck around 10:45 Saturday morning at the intersection of North 48th and St. Paul Streets.
Lincoln Police and Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded.
Police say she died at the scene.
Kristine Hess was the Director of Operations for the organization "Civic Nebraska," which advocates for voting access, civic education, and community engagement.
"It is with the deepest sadness, and with profound shock, that Civic Nebraska shares that our director of operations, Kris Hess, was killed on Saturday, Nov. 15, while walking to a Civic Nebraska event in northeast Lincoln. Kris died after being struck by a vehicle just outside the venue. She was 61.
Kris, who joined us earlier this fall, quickly became a trusted and compassionate leader within our organization. She oversaw our internal operations, supported our staff across programs, and helped strengthen the systems that make our mission possible. Even in her short time with us, she brought clarity, integrity, and genuine care to every interaction.
Kris was warm, thoughtful, and deeply committed to work that strengthens community and lifts up every voice. She was the kind of colleague who made others feel supported and seen. Losing her in this sudden and senseless way is an immeasurable tragedy, and our entire organization is grieving.
We are holding Kris’s family, her loved ones, and all who knew her in our hearts during this terrible time. We are also grateful to those who have reached out with kindness and support."
