(Des Moines, IA) -- Former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts is pleading not guilty to federal charges.
Roberts is accused of being in the U.S. illegally, owning illegal firearms, and lying on employment forms about being a U.S. citizen when he is not. A federal grand jury indicted Roberts last week.
He remains in federal custody at the Polk County Jail.
