Omaha Police have identified the suspect in an officer-involved shooting.
Officers and the police department's ABLE-1 helicopter responded to a reported burglary at a home near 152nd and Spencer Streets at about 2 a.m. Thursday.
Police say 55-year-old suspect Dean Weid was trying to break into the house through the back door.
Officers say they initially saw the suspect in the backyard just before he broke into the home through a glass door and emerged on the front porch, where he shot at police.
That's when officers returned fire, striking Weid.

No officers were injured during the exchanged gunfire.
An investigation into the shooting is underway, including footage from officer body cameras and other surveillance footage.
Involved officers are on paid leave, in accordance with department policy.
An investigation is ongoing, with the help of Nebraska State Patrol and the Omaha Police Department's Officer Involved Investigations Team.
