Omaha 'Officer-Involved' Shooting Investigated

Investigators say an officer - involved shooting seriously injures a man in northwest Omaha.

Police were called to a home near 152nd and Spencer Streets around two a.m. Thursday.

Police say a male suspect in a backyard fired shots and went through the house to the front porch.

That's when officers fired shots at him.

Two shots hit the man, and a Douglas County Sheriff's Department K-9 dragged the man away from his gun.

The suspect was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured.

The Omaha Police Chief issued this statement:

“It’s a deeply concerning trend that our officers are being fired upon,” said Todd Schmaderer. “When confronted with armed threats to themselves and the public, our officers have responded with incredible courage. I am grateful that both the community and our officers are safe. I fully back the decisive actions taken by the involved officers. It is imperative officers have our support when defending themselves and others from deadly threats.”
