An Omaha Police officer is shot after responding to a 911 call at a QuikTrip at 120th and Dodge Streets on Monday morning.
Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said someone called about a person being erratic and making incoherent comments inside of the store. Officers arrived and had a conversation with the suspect outside of the store, leading to gunfire.
One officer, a 15-year veteran of the police force was shot in the head during the exchange. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but is alert and spoke with Chief Schmaderer and Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr.
Schmaderer said the prognosis for the officer looks good.
The suspect fled into a nearby McDonald's, and was taken into custody without incident after another 911 call by employees at the restaurant.
