Justice Department Requests Nebraska's Full Voter Registration Data

(Lincoln, NE) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has requested Nebraska's complete, unredacted voter registration list, including names, addresses, dates of birth, and partial Social Security numbers.

Nebraska Secretary of State Robert Evnen received the federal request on September 8th, with a September 22nd deadline to respond. The state has not decided whether to comply and has forwarded the letter to the Nebraska Attorney General's office for legal review.

The Department of Justice has sent similar requests to dozens of other states, citing federal voter registration laws. Responses have varied, with some states providing full lists while others have refused. In Nebraska, voter registration lists are already publicly accessible for a fee, though voters can request privacy for certain information.

The Attorney General's office declined to comment on the pending review.
