(DES MOINES, IA) -- A new federal directive that took effect Wednesday now requires the state's IowaWORKS job centers to verify a person's eligibility before providing individualized workforce services.
Under the new rule, U.S. citizens who have not had their citizenship verified through unemployment benefits in the last 12 months will need to provide proof, such as a birth certificate or passport. Non-citizens seeking services are required to provide work-authorization documents and will have their status re-verified at least every three months.
Officials noted that citizens who have received recent unemployment benefits will not be impacted, and applicants can upload documents online or get in-person help at an IowaWORKS center.
