(Omaha, NE) -- Omaha Public Schools is considering a levy increase.

Officials have proposed an increase of 2.2 cents, to $1.13 per $100 of assessed property value for the district’s 2025-26 budget. It would cost the homeowner of a $250,000 house about $2,825, an increase of just under $60 a year. Most of the extra money would go to teacher and staff pay. Ten-million dollars would go into the OPS contingency fund, for emergency needs or for loss of state or federal funding.

The proposed budget includes an increase in the general fund of $38 million and a property tax increase of $28 million from the current budget.

The board expected to vote September 22.
