Monarch Butterflies, Songbirds Migrate Through Iowa, Nebraska

(Omaha, NE) -- Millions of Monarch Butterflies are starting their annual migration south through Nebraska to Mexico.

Entomologist Dr. Doug Golick of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln says all the monarchs from the Central U.S. go to the mountains north of Mexico City during the winter.

He says the migration is a couple weeks earlier than normal. Another 222-million birds, mainly songbirds, migrated overnight Monday night, after 218-million the night before.
