'DEI' A Topic In Omaha Budget Discussion

A proposal to remove the words "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" from the 2026 Omaha City budget fails.

People lined up for their chance to speak at the regular City Council meeting Tuesday afternoon for, or against the resolution that would strip out DEI.

The resolution says removing references to DEI would protect Omaha from losing federal money for police, fire, and road improvements.

In the public hearing one woman said she'd rather put people above roads.

Another said DEI is unconstitutional.

The council voted to keep the references in the budget.
