(Lincoln, NE) -- Nebraska and Iowa have launched the nation's first multistate prescription drug donation program.
The partnership between Nebraska's Department of Health and Human Services and Iowa's SafeNetRx nonprofit allows unexpired donated medicine to be inspected and redistributed to low-income patients. The program targets those at or below 200-percent of the federal poverty level.
The initial contract is for 475-thousand dollars per year over two years. SafeNetRx reports 28-million dollars in donated medicine available.
