(Omaha, NE) -- Since its launch in 1984, Omaha Crime Stoppers has received more than 53,000 tips and awarded over $2.3 million in reward money. The program offers cash rewards for information that leads to arrests.
“In the month of June, we paid out over $26,000. These are serious crimes involving violence, and we were able to take some dangerous people off the streets of Omaha based on anonymous tips,” said Mark Langan, President of the Board of Directors for Omaha Crime Stoppers.
The program operates on the guarantee that tipsters remain anonymous. Each person who submits a tip is assigned a unique ID number. If the tip leads to an arrest, they can receive up to $25,000 in cash, depending on the severity of the crime.
“The important point of Omaha Crime Stoppers—and what keeps us operating—is the guarantee of anonymity. We never ask a person’s name, we never check caller ID, and we never try to investigate the tipster. If we did, no one would ever call,” Langan said.
Omaha Crime Stoppers recently expanded its partnerships to include the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and the Omaha Police Department.
