Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies Enforce Dirt Bike Laws

The Douglas County Sheriff says Tuesday evening, Deputies came across a 15-year-old who was illegally riding a dirt bike in an unsafe manner through a neighborhood in northwest, unincorporated Douglas County.

The Sheriff says the same juvenile, and his father, received a verbal warning in May for the same activity.

This week, the dirt bike was impounded, the juvenile received a juvenile referral, and the father was ticketed for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The Sheriff says Deputies do not want to be the "fun police," however, laws exist for a reason, and they have a legal obligation to enforce them and uphold public safety when encountering a person committing an unlawful act.

The Sheriff goes on to say dirt bikes are not street legal for a myriad of reasons.

Individuals who are caught driving non-street-legal vehicles on roadways or other prohibited places will be cited.

In the case of juvenile drivers, parents may be held liable as well.
