Summer cookouts are costing more right now with a rise in beef prices in the grocery case.
A Midwest advocate for producers says one problem is low cattle numbers driving basic supply and demand.
According to Adam Wegner, Director of Marketing for The Nebraska Beef Council, "Producers are having to make a decision on whether they should sell their animals at high prices at the sale barn, or if they should retain those animals and build the herd back."
Wegner says, though retailers have been able to make some adjustments on prices, it's starting to catch up now as they are forced to raise prices in the check-out line.
Wegner says an organization like his is doing a lot of consumer education on using beef in different ways to stretch their beef dollars, including a look at value cuts.
