August Peak Bat Season in Nebraska

The Nebraska Humane Society says the August is the peak time for bat removals in Nebraska. Bats are a known carrier of rabies, which poses serious public safety concerns.

If you make contact with a bat or wake up to find one in your bedroom, the bat needs to be tested. The Humane Society says if you find a bat in your home, you should call the Health Department. They say you should not try to kill the bat on your own or put it outside because then the bat cannot be tested for rabies.
