Nebraska State Patrol Slows Speeders In I-80 Work Zone

In the days leading up to the Independence Day holiday weekend, the Nebraska State Patrol conducts a special enforcement effort in a construction zone.

Wednesday morning, troopers focused on speeding in the Interstate 80 construction zone just west of Lincoln.

The area includes lane shifts that move the westbound lanes adjacent to the eastbound lanes.

NSP says during a three-hour period, troopers stopped 36 drivers for speeding in that zone.

The speed limit in the zone is 55 miles per hour.

The highest speed observed in the construction zone during that time was 80 miles per hour.

The Patrol says troopers will closely monitor traffic in this area for the duration of the project.
