First Human Case of West Nile Virus Confirmed in Nebraska

(LINCOLN, NE) -- State health officials have confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus in Nebraska for this year.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says the case was detected in the East Central Health Department in Columbus. A Nebraska Medical Center expert warns that a case this early could signal a more severe season.

Officials are urging Nebraskans to take preventative measures, as there is no vaccine or specific treatment for the virus.
