(Des Moines, IA) -- The Iowa Attorney General’s Office has announced that the state will join a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and its owners, the Sackler family. The settlement resolves litigation related to Purdue and the Sacklers’ role in creating and exacerbating the nationwide opioid crisis.
As part of the agreement, Iowa’s Opioid Settlement Fund will receive up to $18.9 million over the next 15 years. An additional $18.9 million will be distributed among local governments across the state. The majority of these funds will be allocated within the first three years.
